2. HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION

2.1 Health Effects - Acute
Swallowed
Low toxicity. Ingestion of large quantities may cause nitrate poisoning. Small amounts may cause weakness, depression, headache, mental impairment. Large amounts may cause dizziness, abdominal cramps, vomiting, bloody diarrhea, weakness, convulsions and collapse.
Eye
May cause mild irritation and burn.
Skin
Normally not hazardous.
Inhaled
Exposure to dust is slightly irritative to the respiratory tract (including mucous membranes, throat and lungs). Exposure to fumes is slightly toxic.
2.2 Health Effects - Chronic
Carcinogenicity - NPT, IARC, OSHA: Negaitve.

Hazard
Risk Phrases
R8 Contact with combustible material may cause fire.
Safety Phrases
S16 Keep away from sources of ignition.
S41 In case of fire and/or explosion, do not breathe fumes.
4.3 Spills and Disposal
Spills
Clean up personnel should wear suitable protective clothing. Contain spilled material. Do not allow to enter streams and water supplies.
Pick up material and store in plastic bags away from combustibles for later disposal.
Disposal
Dispose of in non crop area away from water supplies or in an approved landfill in accordance with all local, state and federal regulations.
4.4 FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD
Fire / Explosion
Not flammable. Hazardous decomposition products include oxides of nitrogen. Potassium nitrate is an oxidiser and therevfore increases the intensity of any fire and the possibility of an explosion.
Extinguishing Media
Fire-fighters should wear full protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus. In case of fire use equipment/media appropriate to surrounding fire conditions.
