2. HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION
2.1 Health Effects - Acute
Swallowed
Low level of toxicity by ingestion. Large amounts may cause gastrointestinal irritation and diarrheoa.
Eye
May cause mechanical eye irritations.
Skin
Prolonged and/or repeated contact may cause irritation and/or dermatitis.
Inhaled
May cause irritation to the respiratory tract. Symptoms may include coughing and shortness of breath.
2.2 Health Effects - Chronic
Chronic exposure may cause skin effects.
2.3 First Aid
Swallowed
Induce vomiting immediately as directed by medical personnel. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Seek medical attention.
Eye
Flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower lids. Seek medical attention.
Skin
Flush skin with plenty of soap and water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. Seek medical attention if irritation develops or persists.
Inhaled
Remove victim from exposure. Avoid becoming casualty. If effects persist seek medical attention.

4.3 Spills and Disposal
Spills
Ensure appropriate protective gear is worn.
Sweep up or shovel spill into a suitable container for reclammation or disposal. Vacuuming or wet sweeping may be used to avoid dust dispersal.

Fire / Explosion
Material may decompose in a fire. When heated to decomposition emits very toxic fumes of Na2O and SOx. Incompatible with acids, iodine, lead salts, mercury and silver. Reacts violently with sodium nitrite. Hazardous decomposition products include hydrogen sulphide and sodium oxide.
