2.1 Health Effects - Acute
Swallowed
After excessive ingestion, may cause oedema or elevated blood pressure, may cause vomiting. Irritant.
Eye
Dust may cause irritation.
Skin
Dust may cause irritation to open wounds.
Inhaled
Inhalation of product may cause mild irritation to the nose and throat.

2.3 First Aid
Swallowed
High water (or milk) intake facilitates urinary excretion and relief of oedema and temporary elevated blood pressure. Provide liquid slowly but as much as casualty will drink. NEVER make an unconscious person vomit or drink fluids. In serious cases obtain medical attention.
Eye
Irrigate with ample volume of water for 15 minutes. Keep eyelids well apart while rinsing and ensure no particles are lodged behind eyelids. Transport to doctor or hospital without further delay.
Skin
Wash affected areas thoroughly with water (and soap if available). Seek medical attention in the event of irritation.
Inhaled
Ensure airways are clear, remove to fresh air. Perform artificial respiration if breathing has stopped. Keep affected person warm and at rest. Transport to a hospital or doctor without further delay.

Use in a naturally well ventilated area. Local exhaust may be required if dusty conditions exist. The structural integrity of ferrous-based equipment and structures should be checked regularly as corrosion is accelerated by salt (especially in damp conditions).

Under normal circumstances protective wear is not required, however under particularly dusty conditions an approved dust mask is recommended. Rubber gloves, safety goggles, overalls etc. may be used for personal comfort. 4.4 FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD

Not combustible, however when heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of chlorine and sodium oxide. Avoid reaction with strong oxidisers. Sodium chloride reacts violently with bromium trifluoride and lithium. Avoid contact with concentrated sulphuric and nitric acids.
